After football, badminton is the second most popular participation sport in the world, and is particularly popular in Malaysia and Indonesia.
Did you know...? Badminton is the fastest racket game in the world with the shuttlecock travelling at up to 200 mph, that's faster than the Eurostar travels! In fact Tan Boon Heong of Malaysia recorded the fastest ever smash, 421 km/h (262 mph), during Yonex's speed test of the Arcsaber Z-slash in 2009.
Did you know...? Top badminton players can cover about one mile per game so require strong thigh and calf muscles. Sprinting and footwork are other key elements to becoming a successful player.
Did you know...? Shuttlecocks weigh around 5g and have 16 feathers from the left wing of four geese. They're set in a cork base and are very fragile (especially when hit at 262 mph!)
Did you know...? Did you know, Hampshire is one of the top 3 or 4 Counties in the Country at producing future international stars! Could you be one of them?
Why not come along and have a go at Basingstoke Junior Badminton Club, Queen Mary's College 1st to 3rd Sunday mornings of each month.
